Alexanders International School

Offers termly Foundation courses and One and Two Year GCSE courses for international students aged 11 to 17 years.

Students can be prepared for entry to all schools and colleges in the United Kingdom. As we are wholly independent we can advise on the most appropriate choice of school. During the Foundation Course, students will be supported in their applications for their chosen school or college, or helped to find a suitable place to go on to.

Students from Alexanders have gone on to schools such as : Lancing College, Roedean School, Merchiston Castle School, St. Clare's Oxford, Wellington College, Framlingham College, Bedford High School for Girls, Caterham, St Bede's, Denstone College, Leighton Park, Bedstone College, Box Hill School, Concord College, Berkhamstead Collegiate, Queen's College Taunton, ACS Cobham, Colchester 6th Form College, Worth, Wycliffe,  Woodbridge, Kings Bruton, King Edwards, Sheffield College, St Bedes and Dulwich College.

Life in a boarding school

Students' experience as boarders at Alexanders International School will prepare them for life in a boarding school anywhere in this country. In addition, students will be prepared for life in the United Kingdom through a variety of activities.

Foundation Course - Boarding School Preparation

Age: 11 – 17

Start Date:  September, January or April

Duration:  1,2 or 3 terms

Maximum Class Size:  15 students (average 8)

• Preparation for entry into boarding school

• All students study core subjects of English and Maths – additional subjects

include Science, ICT, Geography, World History, Art, Music, Physical Education,

Food Technology and Environmental

• Students can be entered for English language examinations (UCLES – Key English

Test, Preliminary English Test, First Certificate, IELTS)

Preparation for International GCSE and GCSE (One and Two year programmes)

One Year GCSE Course

Age: 15, 16 and 17 (in September)

Start Dates: September or January

Duration: 2 or 3 terms

Maximum Class Size: 15 students (average 8)

Please note that Alexanders International School reserves the right to place a student in an alternative group after mock examinations in February should the necessary standards not be attained to pass GCSEs in May/June.

Two Year GCSE Course

Age: 14, 15 (in September)

Start Dates: September or January

Duration: 5 or 6 terms

Maximum Class Size: 15 students (average 8)

  • All students study core GCSE subjects in English (ESOL) and Maths.
  • Additional subjects include Business Studies, Combined Science, ICT, Art and First Language (not all languages are available at IGCSE - a list of those that are can be found at http://www.cie.org.uk/qualifications/academic/middlesec/igcse/subjects
  • During the first year the emphasis will be weighted towards improving English language in a ratio of 60% English to 40% subjects. During the second year this ratio will be reverrsed.

Study Skills

Students are trained in learner independence, research skills, negotiation, target setting and enquiry - all skills which will be essential to success in their chosen UK Boarding School and throughout their academic lives.

English Language Examinations

As each achieves the appropriate standard, students can be entered for UCLES Examinations (Key English Test, Preliminary English Test, First Certificate English and IELTS) or I/GCSE English Language.

Joining the Foundation or One or Two Year GCSE courses at Alexanders International School
To apply for a place on the Foundation Course, please complete and return the Admissions Form together with the student's most recent school report (translated into English) and payment of £90.00 GBP. The Principal will consider the application and may take up references from the student's present school before offering a place.

When a place is offered, you will receive the necessary invoice and will need to pay the £750 GBP Student School Expenses immediately. The termly fees must be paid 4 weeks prior to the start of term. You will also be sent Joining Information to help you plan for the student's enrolment at our school.
